History
Founded by Spoken Word Artist and Rapper, Fisky on 26th June 2017 after a twenty year battle with his mental health. Since then we’ve held monthly events providing a platform for up and coming artists on our open mic and our stage has been graced by from some of the most established and respected names in the UK Hip Hop and Spoken Word scenes, including; The Floacist [Floetry] Chester P [Taskforce] Tony D [Poisonous Poets / Don’t Flop], Sophia Thakur, Sukina Pilgrim, Lionheart, Dizraeli and many more.
The heart and soul of Mind Over Matter is to provide people with a platform to express themselves in a safe environment and to widen the conversation around mental health. The event has helped people with depression, addiction, anxiety, and other mental health conditions by creating a safe space to share and opening often difficult conversations; Fisky has watched it become the platform he never had. People have really connected with the event and the support we continue to receive from the scene and beyond is incredible and something we are very grateful for.
Since beginning, MoM has grown organically and gone from strength to strength collaborating with the likes of TedX and The Lost Lectures, The Grey Dog Festival which focusses on putting young people’s mental health centre stage and normalising the conversation amongst the youth and The Tavistock and Portman (NHS Mental Health Organisation).
We we’re also shortlisted for ‘Best Regular Spoken Word Night’ at 2018 The Saboteur Awards and on December 21st 2018, we launched ‘Young Minds Matter’ in collaboration with; Poetry Prescribed, Greater London Authority Education and Youth Team and The Peer Outreach Team. We offer our Young Minds Matter programme to educational services, youth charities, and organisations.
In April 2019 we held our first international event in Melbourne, Australia which was a massive success and there are plans to go back. We have a lot coming up both domestically and internationally so stay tuned to our social media pages or sign up to our mailing list to be the first to know when we announce anything!
